Scottish Summer Solstice Fly-In 2009

Strathaven Airfield from the air to the north east
  • Saturday 20th June is the Scottish Flying Club's Summer Solstice Fly-In, with free camping and free landing fees all weekend. Why not come on the Friday and enjoy HangarFest09 too. For details please click the link above.
    .
  • At Strathaven Airfield, no PPR is required for the Fly-In and unleaded petrol will be available all weekend.

  • Catering will be a BBQ from 12:30 until 2pm and from 5:30pm until 7pm.

  • For passengers and those camping over there will be award-winning Strathaven Ales on tap.

  • Strathaven Airfield uses Safetycom (135.475mhz) as its radio frequency. Please make blind calls to Strathaven Traffic and do not expect a response. Be aware, more wind sensitive aircraft may be using the cross-wind runways while larger aircraft may need the length of the main runway.

  • Our windsock is ex-Glasgow Airport and is horizontal at 30kts. The online weather station on this site is updated every five minutes - however, it is on the roof of the new hangar and is sheltered from easterly winds so will under-read easterly winds quite significantly.

  • Strathaven Airfield is at 847ft above sea level, so the 1,000ft wind on the Form 214 gives a good forecast. In southerlies, Glasgow, Edinburgh and Prestwick Airports will all have a significantly lower wind in their METARs than Strathaven.

  • To get Strathaven's QFE, simply subtract 31mbs from Glasgow's QNH.
